Diabetes mellitus is a condition where the body does not make insulin or make enough insulin (insulin resistance). It is a usually disease of the pancreas.

Diabetes occurs in one of the following situations:

  • The pancreas (an organ behind your stomach) produces little insulin or no insulin at all. Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreas, which helps the body use sugar for energy.
  • The pancreas makes insulin, but the insulin made doesn’t work as it should. This condition is called insulin resistance.
Diagnostic Services
Diagnostics are used to investigate a wide range of illnesses and conditions. Examples of diagnostic services include blood tests, breast screening, radiology (imaging), hematology, and pathology.

Disability exams conducted for Social Security objectives are not to deliver medical treatment. Instead, their purpose is to provide a recent snapshot of a claimant’s conditions and various limitations. Consultative exams can be physical, psychiatric, or psychological. They can also include ophthalmological exams, blood work, and the taking of x-rays. The examiner only obtains what is necessary for a decision to be made.
